BJJ emphasises techniques where submission holds involving joint locks and chokeholds are applied. The advantage of a larger, stronger opponent comes from superior reach and more powerful strikes – these perceived advantages are largely negated when wrestling on the ground. Once an opponent is on the ground, a number of manoeuvres (and counter-manoeuvres) are available to manipulate the opponent into suitable position for the application of a submission hold. This system of movement and manipulation can be likened to a game of chess contested between two experienced players.

BJJ is a martial art form that requires skill and efficiency, not brute strength. This style of combat is built on the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger assailant using correct leverage and technique understanding.

The first thing you should know is that anyone of any fitness level can participate in our training.

Having a sports performance component is necessary to assist our team in its preparations, whether competing in striking (Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai), Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), or Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

The subject of strength training in sports has become a hotly debated topic in recent years. Some coaches believe that you can never have enough, while others believe strength is largely overrated.

For those that train in combat sports, they know that explosive strength, power, speed and conditioning culminating with the ability to continually use it wherever the contest may go, are all necessary traits if you want to be a well-rounded athlete.

Today’s athletes cannot afford to be lacking in any of these areas! That is what is so great about our sessions! No two sessions are ever the same! And we build human machines!

What we don’t do is use training methods where we endanger our people (Like some strength and conditioning specific centres!) everyone is correctly shown, everyone is corrected during exercise, everyone is encouraged to do their best!
